Motorcycle routes in Pennsylvania
10 routes. Each one starts at the foot of the good part; the "from NYC" and "from Stamford" versions add the ride there and back.
River Road · PA-32
42 mi · 1h 25m
PA-32 hugs the Delaware and the canal from Washington Crossing to Easton, through stone villages like New Hope, Lumberville and Upper Black Eddy. It's narrow and quiet, with gentle bends under the trees: a good pick for a pack that wants scenery and coffee stops more than technical riding. Heads up: it closes often after floods and the northern half has potholes, so check conditions before you go. Keep it quiet through town, and expect New Hope to be packed on weekends.
Delaware Water Gap · US-209
33 mi · 56 min
Milford to Delaware Water Gap on US-209, inside the national recreation area: forest, the river off to one side and almost no commercial strip along the way. It's a flowing ride with no tight corners, good for newer riders or as a warm-up before something more technical; the last stretch drops down River Rd to Shawnee. Weekend traffic from NYC and NJ can be heavy, and the Dingmans Falls access is closed for construction in 2026. Check the NPS alerts before heading out.
US-6 · Milford to Honesdale
35 mi · 1h 00m
The start of historic US-6 in Pennsylvania: it leaves Milford past Grey Towers, climbs onto the plateau through Delaware State Forest and drops into Hawley and White Mills before Honesdale. Sweeping bends and unbroken woods, with good places to stop in Hawley. Works for any pack; expect slow traffic through downtown Honesdale.
Pocono Cruise to Jim Thorpe
75 mi · 2h 28m
A Poconos crossing that starts in Easton, runs up PA-611 along the river to the Water Gap, goes through Stroudsburg and takes PA-715, the fun part, before following US-209 to Jim Thorpe. The payoff is the town itself: mountain streets and Victorian buildings that feel like another continent. It's one-way and long for a half day, so plan the ride home. In October Jim Thorpe fills up with leaf-peepers and parking is tough; the Tannersville stretch is commercial and slow.
Lake Wallenpaupack
42 mi · 1h 09m
A full lap of Lake Wallenpaupack from Hawley: PA-507 along the east and south shore, Greentown and Newfoundland, then back through Hamlin and Lakeville on PA-590. Relaxed pace, plenty of water views and places to eat along the way. It's the right ride for a mixed pack or one with newer riders. Expect heavy vacation traffic in July and August.
PA-402 · inside the Poconos
28 mi · 43 min
PA-402 crosses the interior of the Poconos from Marshalls Creek to Blooming Grove: Resica Falls, Porters Lake, Pecks Pond and forest end to end. There are hardly any houses or traffic, and the bends are easygoing. It pairs well with US-209 or US-6. There are almost no services along the way: leave with a full tank and watch for deer, especially at dawn and dusk.
Hawk Mountain · Blue Mountain
27 mi · 50 min
A short, technical loop from Hamburg: PA-61 along the Schuylkill, the climb up Hawk Mountain Rd from Drehersville to the sanctuary, then down through Eckville and Albany and back via PA-143 and Lenhartsville. The climb is steep and tight; it's for riders comfortable handling a bike on grades, not for someone's first outing. From September to November the hawk migration fills the sanctuary and parking is hard to find.
Upper Delaware · PA side
53 mi · 1h 42m
The other side of the river from Hawk's Nest: Hancock to Lackawaxen along the Pennsylvania bank, through Equinunk, Damascus, the Narrowsburg bridge and the Roebling Bridge at the end. Far less traffic than NY-97, rural roads and Delaware views where the road runs along the water; some stretches head inland. The roads are narrow with little shoulder, so keep an easy pace. It starts on the New York side, across the bridge at Hancock.
Gold Mine Road to Centralia
56 mi · 2h 00m
Eastern Pennsylvania's serious curves day: Gold Mine Road crosses the mountain from Pine Grove to Tower City, then PA-125 climbs the ridges from Hegins to Shamokin, and it finishes on PA-61 at Centralia, the town abandoned to its underground fire. Lots of technical corners and elevation changes; it's for experienced riders. Heads up: Gold Mine Road runs near Fort Indiantown Gap, a military reservation that closes roads for live-fire training, so confirm it's open. In Centralia the ground still smokes through cracks: stay on the pavement.
Lancaster · covered bridges
48 mi · 1h 46m
A loop through Lancaster's Amish farm country from Strasburg, past the Lime Valley, Bushong's Mill, Bitzer's Mill and Leaman Place covered bridges and through Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse. Flat rural roads between farms with nothing technical: it's about the scenery and frequent stops. You'll share the road with Amish buggies: pass slowly and wide, and keep the engine quiet near the horses. Before heading out, confirm the bridges are still open to traffic.
