MOTORCYCLE ROUTES IN PENNSYLVANIA

Lincoln Highway · US-30 Breezewood to Chambersburg

The Lincoln Highway across the ridges: you leave Breezewood on US-30, climb and drop over the ridges to McConnellsburg, cross Tuscarora Summit, come down to Fort Loudon and finish in the valley at Chambersburg. It's 39 miles of long climbs with mountain curves and steep descents, then a straight last stretch across the valley. There's a biker bar with a view at Tuscarora Summit. Watch for truck traffic on the climbs, and for Breezewood itself, which fills with cars connecting I-70 to the Turnpike.

US-30 here is the Lincoln Highway, and Breezewood, where the route starts, grew up as the "town of motels" at the spot where I-70 meets the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Because of an old federal rule, I-70 traffic still has to use a short stretch of US-30 with traffic lights to reach the Turnpike, and in April 2026 the Turnpike began engineering work on a new direct interchange. Heading east, the road crosses Sideling Hill, where a state forest picnic area sits right at the summit, and drops into McConnellsburg.

East of McConnellsburg the road climbs to Tuscarora Summit, where the Mountain House is a known biker stop, then descends to Fort Loudon, named for a stockade built in 1756 that later served as a supply depot for the Forbes Expedition of 1758. The route ends in Chambersburg, the town Confederate cavalry burned on July 30, 1864, after it failed to pay a $100,000 ransom; more than 500 buildings were lost.
