Motorcycle routes in Delaware
4 routes. Each one starts at the foot of the good part; the "from" versions (NYC, Stamford, Edison, Allentown, Danbury, Hartford, Long Island) add the ride there and back.
Delaware Bayshore · DE-9
50 mi · 1h 28m
The quiet shore of Delaware Bay, one way: from colonial New Castle the route follows DE-9 south, crosses the C&D Canal on the Reedy Point Bridge and runs through Port Penn, Augustine Beach, Taylors Bridge and Flemings Landing, across marsh and farmland, to Leipsic and Little Creek, ending at the Air Mobility Command Museum next to Dover Air Force Base. It's 50 miles. DE-9 floods at high tide and in coastal storms, so check the tide and the forecast before you go. To get back north, ride US-13: DE-1 north of Dover is a toll road.
Brandywine Valley
15 mi · 40 min
The du Pont valley, on the Delaware side only: from Trolley Square in Wilmington the route rides Kennett Pike (DE-52) through Greenville and past Winterthur to Centreville, cuts east before the Pennsylvania line, comes back south by Montchanin Road and Rockland, and returns along the Brandywine past Hagley. It's short on purpose, 15 miles, because it stays in Delaware: the classic loop of this valley keeps going north into Pennsylvania by Chadds Ford. The creek roads are narrow, with no shoulder, and on weekends there's visitor traffic around Winterthur and Hagley.
Delaware Coastal Highway · DE-1
25 mi · 1h 02m
Delaware's beaches end to end, one way: from Lewes the route rides through Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, then down the strip between the Atlantic and Rehoboth Bay in Delaware Seashore State Park, over the Indian River Inlet Bridge and on through Bethany Beach to Fenwick Island, where it ends without crossing into Ocean City, Maryland. It's 25 miles, mostly on four-lane DE-1: this one is about the view, not the curves. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, weekend beach traffic packs DE-1, so ride it off-season or on a weekday.
Camden to Redden State Forest
40 mi · 1h 12m
The farm country of Kent and Sussex, one way: from Camden the route heads south through Wyoming and Canterbury on DE-15, passes Coursey Pond and runs into Milford on the Mispillion River, then follows US-113 south and turns into Redden State Forest, the largest state forest in Delaware, before ending in Georgetown. It's 40 miles, flat and easy, with long lazy sweepers between fields and pines. Kent County has Delaware's only Amish settlement, so expect horse-drawn buggies near Camden and give them plenty of room.
