Motorcycle routes in Georgia
10 routes. Each one starts at the foot of the good part; the "from" versions (NYC, Stamford, Edison, Allentown, Danbury, Hartford, Long Island) add the ride there and back.
Georgia Triangle · Suches Loop
50 mi · 1h 35m
The Georgia Triangle from Dahlonega: the route follows GA-60 north through Stonepile Gap and Woody Gap to Suches, turns onto GA-180 over Wolfpen Gap past Vogel State Park, drops to US-129 at Neels Gap and comes back down through Turners Corner to Dahlonega. It's 50 miles of mountain curves. GA-180 at Wolfpen is narrow, with blind turns on the way down to US-129, so a big pack rides in small groups. Fuel in Dahlonega or at the corner in Suches.
Russell Scenic Highway & Unicoi Gap
41 mi · 1h 11m
The northern half of the Six Gap in one loop from Helen: the route climbs GA-75 to Unicoi Gap, turns onto GA-180 by Jacks Gap, takes the Richard B. Russell Scenic Highway (GA-348) over Tesnatee and Hogpen Gap and comes back down to Helen. It's 41 miles. GA-348 has steep grades, so take the descent easy with a loaded bike, and it closes after snow. Helen's Oktoberfest runs every night until November 1, 2026, and fall-color weekends fill the town; there are no services in the gaps.
Six Gap Loop
80 mi · 2h 17m
Six mountain gaps in one day, from Turners Corner: Neels Gap on US-129, Jacks Gap and Unicoi Gap on GA-180 and GA-75, then Hogpen Gap on the Russell Scenic Highway, Wolfpen Gap on GA-180 and Woody Gap on GA-60. It's 80 miles, at the top of what a day ride should be, and it rides GA-180 between GA-348 and US-129 in both directions. Fuel is scarce: fill up in Dahlonega or Suches. GA-348 is steep, Helen's Oktoberfest runs until November 1, 2026, and the gaps have no services.
GA-52 · Dahlonega to Fort Mountain
63 mi · 1h 35m
GA-52 across the north Georgia mountains, one way: from Dahlonega the route rides west past the turn to Amicalola Falls, crosses Ellijay and its apple houses, passes the Cohutta Overlook, climbs Fort Mountain and drops down to Chatsworth. It's 63 miles. The descent from Fort Mountain to Chatsworth is the most technical part. In September and October, apple-season weekends bring heavy traffic around Ellijay, and Georgia state parks charge $10 per vehicle per day to park.
GA-197 · Clarkesville to Lake Burton
25 mi · 41 min
GA-197 from Clarkesville to Lake Burton, one way: the route rides north past Mark of the Potter, on the Soque River, crosses Batesville, runs along the east shore of Lake Burton by Moccasin Creek State Park and ends at US-76. It's 25 miles of curves and hills with the lake in view at the end. Watch for driveways and marina entrances in the curves and for boat trailers in summer, and plan for no services between Batesville and US-76.
Lake Rabun, Seed & Burton Loop
31 mi · 56 min
Three lakes in one loop from Lakemont: the route follows Lake Rabun Road along the shore past Rabun Beach, crosses at Seed Lake, rides county roads up the east side of Lake Burton to US-76 and comes back through Clayton on US-441. It's 31 miles. The lake roads are narrow, with no shoulder and houses and docks right at the edge, so it suits a small pack. Between Clayton and Wiley, US-441 is four lanes.
Lookout Mountain & Cloudland Canyon
70 mi · 1h 41m
Georgia's side of Lookout Mountain from LaFayette: the route climbs GA-136 onto the mountain, rides out and back to Cloudland Canyon State Park, follows GA-157 south along the crest to Cloudland, drops to Menlo and returns on GA-337. It's 70 miles. The canyon overlooks are inside the park, out and back on the park road, and Georgia state parks charge $10 per vehicle per day to park. The route stays in Georgia: it doesn't follow GA-157 north to Tennessee or GA-48 west to Alabama.
Pine Mountain & FDR State Park
36 mi · 54 min
The only ridge road in central Georgia, in one loop from Pine Mountain: the route takes GA-354 and GA-190 along the crest of Pine Mountain through F.D. Roosevelt State Park, continues to Manchester, comes back through Warm Springs, where Roosevelt's Little White House stands, and returns to Pine Mountain. It's 36 miles. Summers are very hot, park visitors fill GA-190 on weekends, and the spur road to Dowdell's Knob isn't part of the route.
US-17 · Darien to St. Marys
67 mi · 1h 35m
US-17, Georgia's old coast road, one way: from Darien and its shrimp boats the route crosses the Altamaha marshes to Brunswick, climbs the Sidney Lanier Bridge, continues south through Waverly, Woodbine and Kingsland and ends at the St. Marys waterfront. It's 67 miles of marsh and rivers, flat and with no toll. The bridge is high and exposed, so expect crosswinds, and Brunswick and Kingsland have traffic lights. It's a scenery ride, not a curvy one; hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.
Golden Isles · St. Simons & Jekyll
47 mi · 1h 30m
Two barrier islands and two causeways from Brunswick: the route crosses the Torras Causeway to the St. Simons lighthouse and Pier Village, comes back to US-17, climbs the Sidney Lanier Bridge, takes the causeway to Jekyll Island and its historic district, rides north to Driftwood Beach and returns along Beachview Drive. It's 47 miles. Jekyll Island charges every vehicle $10 a day ($15 on event days) and lists no motorcycle rate, so each bike pays. Expect crosswinds on the bridge and summer beach traffic on St. Simons.
