Motorcycle routes in Rhode Island
8 routes. Each one starts at the foot of the good part; the "from" versions (NYC, Stamford, Edison, Allentown, Danbury, Hartford, Long Island) add the ride there and back.
Jamestown, Beavertail & Ocean Drive
32 mi · 1h 37m
The whole bay in one ride: from Wickford the route runs down RI-1A past Rome Point, crosses the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge to Conanicut Island, rides out to the Beavertail lighthouse and back through Mackerel Cove and Jamestown village, then crosses the Newport Pell Bridge and finishes along Ocean Drive and Bellevue Avenue into Newport. It's 32 miles. The Pell charges an all-electronic toll in both directions, with no booths, and in summer Ocean Drive and Newport move slowly with cyclists, trolleys and photo stops.
Sakonnet Loop · RI-77
29 mi · 58 min
The quietest corner of the Rhode Island coast: RI-77 runs south from Tiverton with the Sakonnet River in view, through the colonial village of Tiverton Four Corners and Little Compton, to the end of the road at Sakonnet Point, where the 1884 lighthouse sits on a rock offshore. The loop comes back through Little Compton Commons and Adamsville and returns to Tiverton on RI-81 and RI-177. It's 29 miles on narrow farm roads with stone walls and little or no shoulder, so ride in a short group, and services are scarce south of Four Corners.
Ocean Road & Boston Neck · RI-1A
32 mi · 1h 12m
A loop from Wickford that follows the water south: Boston Neck Road (RI-1A) runs past Rome Point, Casey Farm and Saunderstown to Narragansett Pier and the stone arch of The Towers, then Ocean Road hugs the rocky shore past Black Point and Scarborough Beach to the Point Judith lighthouse. The return goes through Galilee and Wakefield and comes back north on US-1 by the Hannah Robinson Tower. It's 32 miles. In summer the Pier and the beaches fill up, and Ocean Road can close in storms when the sea comes over the Narragansett sea wall.
South County Coast · Watch Hill to Point Judith
37 mi · 1h 19m
The Atlantic coast of Rhode Island from end to end, one way: from Westerly the route rides down to Watch Hill and its old carousel, follows RI-1A along Shore Road behind the Misquamicut and Weekapaug beaches, takes US-1 and Old Post Road through Charlestown, and works through Matunuck to Galilee and the Point Judith lighthouse. It's 37 miles; the quickest way back is US-1, which is divided highway. In summer expect beach traffic, paid parking and a crowded Watch Hill, and wind from the side on the open stretches.
Arcadia & Beach Pond Loop
47 mi · 1h 24m
The big forest of southern Rhode Island: from Kingston the loop heads west on RI-138 to Wyoming, climbs Arcadia Road through the Arcadia Management Area, and takes RI-165 out to Beach Pond at the Connecticut line, where it turns around on the Rhode Island side and comes back the same way. It returns east on Ten Rod Road through Exeter and south on RI-2 to Kingston. It's 47 miles of wooded back roads with easy bends. There are no services inside Arcadia, so fuel in Wyoming, Exeter or Kingston.
Scituate Reservoir · RI-14
23 mi · 41 min
A short forest ride around the reservoir that supplies Providence: from Hope it heads north to RI-14, crosses the Scituate Reservoir on Plainfield Pike, drops south from Clayville on RI-102 and comes back east on Flat River Road to Coventry. It's 23 miles, one way. It isn't a loop for now because RIDOT closed RI-116 through Hope village on April 24, 2026 to rebuild two bridges, with reopening expected by the end of 2026. Traffic is light, and so are services.
Zig Zag to the Sea
63 mi · 2h 03m
A one-way run across the whole state, from the woods to the lighthouse: from North Smithfield it zigzags south on RI-116 through Greenville and North Scituate, crosses the Scituate Reservoir on RI-14, follows RI-102 and RI-3 through the western woods to Wyoming, and heads east through Kingston and Wakefield to Galilee and the Point Judith lighthouse. It's 63 miles one way, and well over 100 with the ride back. Galilee and RI-108 get ferry traffic in summer.
East Bay & Mount Hope Bridge · RI-114
25 mi · 1h 10m
The back way to Newport from Providence: from Riverside the route runs through Barrington, the old centers of Warren and Bristol along Hope Street, crosses the 1929 Mount Hope Bridge, which has no toll, and follows RI-114 down Aquidneck Island through Portsmouth and Middletown to Easton's Beach and Newport. It's 25 miles, one way, and more a ride through bay towns than a road for bends, with lights, pedestrians and bike path crossings. Heading back to Providence, the westbound side of the Washington Bridge (I-195) is being rebuilt, with reopening expected in November 2028.
