Motorcycle routes in New Hampshire
10 routes. Each one starts at the foot of the good part; the "from" versions (NYC, Stamford, Edison, Allentown, Danbury, Hartford, Long Island) add the ride there and back.
Kancamagus Highway · NH-112
34 mi · 56 min
The great ride of the White Mountains: NH-112 leaves Lincoln, climbs along the Pemigewasset valley to the hairpin at the Hancock Overlook and the Kancamagus Pass, then follows the Swift River down past Sabbaday Falls, Rocky Gorge and the Albany Covered Bridge into Conway. It's 34 miles of mountain bends with real overlooks to stop at. There's no fuel, food or toilets in between, so fill up in Lincoln or Conway, and park only with a White Mountain National Forest pass.
Pinkham Notch & Mt. Washington Auto Road
43 mi · 1h 27m
From North Conway the route runs through Glen and Jackson, past the Honeymoon Covered Bridge, and climbs NH-16 into Pinkham Notch, by Glen Ellis Falls. At the Glen House it takes the Mt. Washington Auto Road, a private toll road you ride up and back down the same way to the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast, before finishing in Gorham. It's 43 miles. The Auto Road season ends November 1 and depends on the weather; without the summit, NH-16 alone is still worth the trip.
Bear Notch Road Loop
39 mi · 1h 12m
A short loop that strings together the best of the Conway valley: it heads out on the Kancamagus past the Albany Covered Bridge and Rocky Gorge, turns north on Bear Notch Road, a narrow forest road with overlooks toward the mountains, and drops into Bartlett to return on US-302 through Glen and North Conway. It's 39 miles of easy bends and good stops. Bear Notch Road closes in winter and has no shoulder or services; fuel in Conway and expect outlet traffic in North Conway.
Presidential Range Loop
77 mi · 1h 47m
The full loop around the Presidential Range on pavement: it leaves Gorham on US-2, follows NH-115 and US-3 to Twin Mountain, passes the grand hotel at Bretton Woods and drops through Crawford Notch, with Silver Cascade and the Willey House site, down to Bartlett. From Glen it climbs through Jackson and Pinkham Notch to close the loop in Gorham. It's 77 miles of valleys and mountain passes, a full day. Stay on NH-115, never Jefferson Notch Road, which is dirt.
Lake Winnipesaukee Loop
60 mi · 1h 45m
A full lap of New Hampshire's biggest lake: from Wolfeboro the route runs north on NH-109 through Melvin Village and Moultonborough, crosses Center Harbor and Meredith, passes Weirs Beach and Gilford, and comes back around by Ellacoya State Park and Alton Bay. It's 60 miles of lake views rather than tight curves, with plenty of places to stop for food. In summer there's traffic and boat trailers in Meredith, Weirs and Wolfeboro, and during Laconia Motorcycle Week, June 13 to 21, Weirs Beach fills up.
Dixville Notch & Thirteen Mile Woods
52 mi · 1h 18m
The real north: from Colebrook, NH-26 follows the Mohawk River and climbs into Dixville Notch, the most dramatic rock pass in the North Country, then drops to Errol. There the route turns south on NH-16 along the Androscoggin, through the Thirteen Mile Woods and past Pontook Reservoir, to Milan and Berlin. It's 52 miles with almost no towns. There are no services between Colebrook and Errol or between Errol and Milan, so fuel up first, and watch for moose at dawn and dusk.
New Hampshire Seacoast · NH-1A & 1B
21 mi · 59 min
All of New Hampshire's short ocean coast in one ride: NH-1A runs north from Seabrook through Hampton Beach, North Hampton and Rye, past Rye Harbor, Wallis Sands and Odiorne Point, and NH-1B crosses New Castle by Wentworth by the Sea before ending in Portsmouth's Market Square. It's 21 miles with the Atlantic beside you most of the way. Hampton Beach has crowds and police in summer, the Hampton Harbor bridge is under construction, and beach parking is paid. NH-1B is narrow, with houses right on the road.
NH-153 · Among the Lakes
42 mi · 1h 07m
A rural two-lane road that goes from lake to lake: NH-153 leaves Union, passes through Wakefield, runs along Province Lake, continues through Effingham and Freedom, passes Purity Lake and Crystal Lake in Eaton and reaches Conway. It's 42 miles of gentle bends, forest and small villages. Beside Province Lake the road dips about 3 km (2 mi) into Maine and then comes back into New Hampshire. There's no shoulder, few places to pull over, and cabin driveways appear in blind curves.
Monadnock Loop
39 mi · 1h 17m
A short loop around Mount Monadnock from Keene: NH-101 goes out to Marlborough, NH-124 runs to the Monadnock State Park entrance, and the route continues through Jaffrey Center, back roads to Dublin and the brick mill village of Harrisville before returning to Keene. It's 39 miles of hills, lakes and old New England villages. NH-101 carries trucks between Keene and Marlborough, and the route rides that stretch going out and coming back. Expect police in the village centers.
Moose Alley & NH-145
62 mi · 1h 42m
The northern tip of New Hampshire: from Colebrook, NH-145 climbs over hills and farms, past Beaver Brook Falls, to Clarksville and Pittsburg, and US-3 continues north past Lake Francis and the Connecticut Lakes, the stretch known as Moose Alley. The route turns around at Second Connecticut Lake, before reaching Canada, and returns on US-3 to Colebrook. It's 62 miles. Moose cross the road: ease off, don't ride at dusk, watch for logging trucks, and fuel in Colebrook or Pittsburg.
