Zig Zag to the Sea
A one-way run across the whole state, from the woods to the lighthouse: from North Smithfield it zigzags south on RI-116 through Greenville and North Scituate, crosses the Scituate Reservoir on RI-14, follows RI-102 and RI-3 through the western woods to Wyoming, and heads east through Kingston and Wakefield to Galilee and the Point Judith lighthouse. It's 63 miles one way, and well over 100 with the ride back. Galilee and RI-108 get ferry traffic in summer.
The name comes from a ride that has been listed by riders on MotorcycleRoads.com for years: from the north of the state to the sea, zigzagging between state routes instead of taking the interstate. This version starts in North Smithfield, runs south on RI-116 through Greenville and North Scituate, crosses the Scituate Reservoir on RI-14, and follows RI-102 and RI-3 through the woods of Coventry, West Greenwich and Exeter, shared in part with the Scituate Reservoir and Arcadia routes.
From Wyoming it turns east through Kingston and Wakefield and finishes at the Point Judith lighthouse, past the port of Galilee. It's 63 miles one way, so with the ride home it goes well past 100. The Middle of Nowhere Diner on RI-3 in Exeter is a good halfway stop. In summer Galilee and RI-108 carry traffic for the Block Island ferry, so the last miles can be slow.
