Camden to Redden State Forest
The farm country of Kent and Sussex, one way: from Camden the route heads south through Wyoming and Canterbury on DE-15, passes Coursey Pond and runs into Milford on the Mispillion River, then follows US-113 south and turns into Redden State Forest, the largest state forest in Delaware, before ending in Georgetown. It's 40 miles, flat and easy, with long lazy sweepers between fields and pines. Kent County has Delaware's only Amish settlement, so expect horse-drawn buggies near Camden and give them plenty of room.
West of Dover lies Delaware's only Amish settlement, founded around 1915, and its horse-drawn buggies share the roads around Camden and Wyoming: slow down and pass them wide. The route leaves Camden on DE-15 through Wyoming and Canterbury, flat farm country with long easy sweepers, and passes Coursey Pond, a state boat ramp with parking and picnic areas right by the road. It then reaches Milford, a town that sits in both Kent and Sussex counties and once built hundreds of wooden sailing ships on the Mispillion River; the downtown riverwalk runs along the water and has free public lots.
From Milford the route takes US-113 south, a four-lane highway that is just a transfer, and then turns onto the county roads through Redden State Forest, the largest state forest in Delaware, where the Pennsylvania Railroad's officials hunted quail from 1903 to 1919 at the Redden Lodge. The route uses only the paved county roads through the forest; the inner forest roads are dirt. It ends at the Circle in Georgetown, the Sussex County seat. It's one way, and deer cross these roads at dawn and dusk.
