RIDES

SOS, hazards, pit stops and the tail gunner

Everything the pack does when something goes wrong. None of it costs money.

SOS

One press, gloves on. The sheet has two kinds of button, and the difference matters when you are down:

These four alert the pack

  • SOS — general emergency, alert the pack.
  • Crash — I went down.
  • Police — cops ahead, heads up.
  • Breakdown — mechanical, I'm stuck.

Each of those drops a banner on everybody's map with your position on it — red for Crash and SOS, amber for Police and Breakdown. After a Crash, SOS or Breakdown an I'm OK button appears in the sheet to clear your alert once you are sorted.

These two only dial a phone

  • Call 911 — opens your phone's dialer on emergency services.
  • Call a rider — dials somebody on the ride directly (only riders who put a phone number on their profile show up here).

CALLING DOES NOT TELL THE PACK

Call 911 and Call a rider hand you off to your phone's dialer and nothing else — they do not drop a banner, they do not send a notification, and nobody in the group finds out. If you are hurt and you want the pack to come back for you, press Crash or SOS first, then call.

The tail gunner

Pack watches the gap between each pair of riders along the route, not in a straight line. When somebody falls off the back, the group gets “X dropped off · Y behind · gap growing” and a WAIT UP button.

A rider whose phone has just gone quiet for a few seconds does not trigger it — that is a frozen dot, not a dropped rider, and it stays out of the alert on purpose.

Pit stop

Gas, rest, bathroom. Anybody on the ride can call one — hit the blue PIT button, pick which, and the whole group gets the heads-up right away. Gas and rest also open the nearby-places sheet so you can see what is around.

ADDING A STOP TO THE ROUTE IS A DIFFERENT THING

Announcing a pit stop is open to everyone. Changing the route — dropping a gas station into the line so it reroutes for the pack — is only the road captain (or whoever created the ride). If you tap add-stop and get “Road captain only”, that is this, not the pit button.

Regroup pin

Drop a pin that says “meet me here”. Everyone on the ride sees it and can navigate to it, with an ETA.

Hazards

Report Police, Accident or Hazard and it drops a temporary pin. Hazard pins are anonymous and they cross club lines: any Pack rider near that spot sees it, whether they are in your club or not. That is the point — a cop trap does not care whose colors you wear.

Emergency info

Blood type, emergency contact and insurance live on your profile and are optional. They are readable only by the club's officers — road captain, VP, president — and only while a ride is actually live.

SAFETY IS NEVER BEHIND A PAYWALL

SOS, the live map, the tail gunner, hazards and the chat are free, forever, for everyone. We are not going to charge a rider to shout for help.
