Why Pack needs your location all the time

What we collect, when, who sees it, and when it stops.

Pack uses your location — including in the background, when the app is closed or your phone is in your pocket — so the pack can follow the ride live. Nobody rides with the phone in their hand. If location only worked with Pack open on screen, the app would be useless on a bike.

What it is used for

  • The live pack map — the pack sees your dot move in real time during a live ride.
  • Tail gunner — Pack measures the gaps between riders and warns the group when someone drops off the back.
  • SOS — when you hit SOS, your exact position goes to the whole pack.
  • Your recap — the route is recorded so you get a map and stats when the ride ends.

When it happens

  • Only during a live ride. Not when the app is idle, not when you are reading the chat, not overnight.
  • It stops when the ride ends — or the moment you leave the ride.
  • On Android a permanent Pack — Live Ride notification is on screen the whole time it is running. If that notification is gone, nothing is being collected.

Who sees it

Your club, on that ride. That is it. We do not sell location data, we do not run ads, and there are no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.

You can say no. Location permission is only needed to join live rides — the clubhouse, the chat, your garage and the vest all work without it.
