Scenic Highway 30A

Scenic Highway 30A end to end: from Dune Allen the route rides east through Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain, Grayton Beach, Seaside, WaterColor, Seagrove and Alys Beach to Rosemary Beach, then comes back west on US-98 through Point Washington State Forest. It's 37 miles of beach towns and coastal dune lakes, flat and slow. Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin on October 9, 2026; 30A is a county road, so check Walton County before you go. Expect cyclists, golf carts and bike-path crossings, and heavy traffic in summer.

County Road 30A runs along the Gulf through the beach towns of South Walton, between the sand and the coastal dune lakes, rare lakes that sometimes open to the sea; Western Lake, at Grayton Beach, is one of the best known. From Dune Allen the route rides east past the Ed Walline beach access, through Blue Mountain and Grayton Beach, by the entrance to Grayton Beach State Park, and on to Seaside, the planned town where The Truman Show was filmed, then WaterColor, Seagrove, Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach. It comes back west on US-98 through Point Washington State Forest.

Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin on October 9, 2026. US-98 and the state bridges reopened the next day, and Grayton Beach State Park reopened on October 12 after crews rebuilt a storm-damaged bridge inside the park. 30A is a county road, and in 2026 Walton County was replacing the bridge over Western Lake, with lane shifts, night lane closures and short daytime stoppages, so check the county's notices before you go. It's 37 slow miles: cyclists, golf carts and bike-path crossings everywhere, hard parking in Seaside and Rosemary Beach, and heavy traffic in summer.
