Letchworth State Park · Park Road

The Genesee gorge from the inside: you enter Letchworth State Park at Mount Morris, ride Park Road along the west rim of the canyon to the Glen Iris Inn and Portageville, and return on NY-436 to Nunda and NY-408 to Mount Morris. It's 36 miles with overlooks above waterfalls and rock walls. The park charges a vehicle fee from May to late October and there's no fuel inside, so fill up in Mount Morris. East Park Road is not used.

Letchworth is called the Grand Canyon of the East: the Genesee River cuts a gorge with cliffs up to 600 feet high and drops over three major waterfalls inside the park. The land was the estate of William Pryor Letchworth (1823-1910), and his home, above Middle Falls, has been the Glen Iris Inn since 1914. At the Upper Falls, the Genesee Arch Bridge carries the railroad 240 feet above the river; it opened in 2017 on the site where the first wooden trestle went up in 1852.

The park charges a vehicle fee in season (in 2026, $10 from May 8 to October 25), and the Glen Iris Inn and its dining room open from May through October. There's no fuel inside the park, so fill up in Mount Morris. The north entrance, off NY-408, gives access to the Mount Morris Dam and its overlook, run by the Army Corps of Engineers.
