Blue Ridge Parkway South · Roanoke to Meadows of Dan

The Parkway of farms and mills, one way: from US-220 south of Roanoke the route follows the Blue Ridge Parkway past Adney Gap, Smart View, Tuggles Gap and Rocky Knob to Mabry Mill, and finishes at US-58 in Meadows of Dan. It's 55 miles, with no entrance fee. It skips the Roanoke Mountain Loop, which is closed, and ends at US-58 because the Parkway goes on into North Carolina. There's no fuel on the Parkway (Floyd or Meadows of Dan), Mabry Mill gets crowded in the fall, and in winter snow and ice close the gates.

This route rides about 55 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway across the high plateau of southern Virginia, from the US-220 interchange south of Roanoke to Meadows of Dan. It climbs to Adney Gap and runs along farmland and woods past the Smart View picnic area and Tuggles Gap, where VA-8 heads to Floyd, to the Rocky Knob area, where the overlook at the rim of Rock Castle Gorge looks down into the gorge. It doesn't use the Roanoke Mountain Loop near milepost 120, which is closed until further notice.

Near milepost 176 is Mabry Mill, the gristmill and sawmill Ed Mabry built at the start of the 20th century, restored by the park in the 1940s and today one of the most photographed spots on the Parkway; in the fall the lot fills up. The mill's restaurant is listed as closed. The route ends at US-58 in Meadows of Dan, because south of Fancy Gap the Parkway goes on into North Carolina. There's no fuel on the Parkway (Floyd or Meadows of Dan), no entrance fee, and in winter snow and ice close gated sections. It's a one-way route.
